A past Kickstarter success, Fuel3D, known for their 3D scanners, has announced that they have signed a contract worth $1.1 million to produce medical scanning equipment:

The company has raised $325K on Kickstarter, and an additional $2+ million from venture capitalists, prior to signing this contract. Goes to show that Kickstarter projects can launch entire companies. They also plan to file for an IPO next year!

It's amazing what could happen here:
The company expects to use their proprietary technology within several medical fields, including, plastic surgery, prosthetics, and orthotics.
