Hey guys!

Just created this forum section impromptu after seeing a lot of messages on the Patreon Community Discussion live feed asking for it: http://www.spreecast.com/events/patreon-community-discussion-6-23

Feel free to post your project, ask for feedback, etc. :)

Hi there,

Just wanted to introduce myself and thank Salvador for starting this. Looking forward to brainstorming and talking strategy with everyone.

I'm a radio guy. About 20 years of experience, but everything is up for grabs right now within the industry (and I'd say, on both the commercial and non-commercial sides of the dial).

Have been working on various solo projects since 2007 (print/web/podcasts) but discrete stories on various topics...that seems to be the form I prefer to work in.

My intention is to keep pushing my work identity (journalist) locally, with Patreon as another way of doing so. I've taken a bit of an unusual approach to my Patreon page: very small goals, some modest attempts at humor and an explanation about the kind of journalism I'm interested in.

With my intro video, I employed two non-standard tactics. I want sound to be the focus, since that's what I work with, so I did a screen-capture of the various "visualization" graphics that appear on some media players. I also made my video longer than the recommended length. Only about 2 minutes for the intro, but a collage of past radio work/clips since most people who know me only know about a few stories here and there.

Bye for now - and thanks for reading!

Hi Carrie,

I looked at your site. Your project and process is intriguing. What tradition does the blend-meditation come from? I'm very gradually learning about the Ottawa in northern Michigan. They offer language lessons to their members and the public, which is one item I've tried to help disseminate more widely in my radio work.

Hi all,

I also found my way here via the Facebook group. Looks like a useful kind of forum.

I've only subscribed to one Patreon, for an acquaintance who is a comedy actor/playwright/writer, etc., and recently moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. I pay $2 per comedy blog post. With that I got a reward of an LOLScrimshaw (his name is Joseph Scrimshaw, and I got a pic of him with a LOLcat theme) and a poem about anything I wanted (I chose giraffes). It's fun to be a part of someone's creativity.

Here's the Patreon link:

Very funny guy. Here's his main site:

Hi Everyone,

New to this site - which I found after reading Salvador's very interesting article on Patreon (which I've just joined - see http://patreon.com/woodpig).

Look forward to reading and posting,

I've got one too. Two, actually, and I'll probably make a third. Kinda frustrating you need a new account for each one, but I've got three very different projects.

Thank you Salvador!

I've started a Patreon page few days ago for my first webcomic project El Nudo (http://webcomic.elnudo.com) (The Knot (http://webcomic.elnudo.com/en/) or Le Nœud (http://webcomic.elnudo.com/fr/)).

I was born in Mérida, Venezuela. Later Spain, UK and France, currently I'm living in Paris.

Graphic and web designer, I am now working hard to achieve my dream of publishing my own comics, and why not, make a living out of my passion. I also love to play and create music. More about me (http://webcomic.eluque.com/en/author/sec/39/)

A story inspired by true dreamlike events, I will keep weaving it on a weekly basis to "the unknown".

I invite you to discover it.

Feel free to share your impressions, they will sure help me one way or the other.

Warm regards,

Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/nudocomic

Hello everyone! I am new here, and likely to be back time and again. I am more of a press release writer, and have come here to share the various projects I have written for that I believe should truly be made.

Greetings from a wannabe writer from St.-Petersburg, Russia.

From my childhood, I have been fascinated in order by fantasy worlds from the books, computer technology, then games. Finally, I have come back to appreciating books again and I believe that interactive medium known as "games" has potential to become possibly the most relevant medium of the 21st century. Still, this potential is very much untapped: the game development industry might have just scratched the surface of what's possible with interactive fiction, back in the 1980s, when some interactive novels took literary awards and Infocom's games were sold in bookstores.

That was back when we haven't yet decided whether interactive fiction is literature or not. Generally, it was decided that it is not (it is its own separate kind of thing instead: videogames), but I think maybe it very much is. Maybe it's just still a very new medium, which expressive language and tools that work hasn't been discovered yet. Almost like cinema where each director has to figure out how to develop film, independently. As one of my favourite game developers (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/02/03/rps-interviews-ice-pick-lodge/) put it,

We have yet to discover the alphabet of this medium. We have discovered four letters and ran away writing books and book-writing textbooks with them. Maybe we should learn more letters first?

I would like to try my hand at making my humble contribution to the progress of this medium someday, but right now I would like to help others, who have already created interesting projects that blend games, prose and sometimes poetry, and seek funding via Kickstarter, Indiegogo or similar crowdfunding platforms (sorry for posting this in the Patreon thread; I am new here and I have to post something before I am allowed to post in the othe sections)

The project I'm trying to promote right now is called

Elegy for a Dead World: A Game About Writing Fiction (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dejobaan/elegy-for-a-dead-world-a-game-about-writing-fictio)

In this game, you are controlling an astronaut as he or she walks across a screen depicting a beautiful alien landscape. There are no items to find, enemies to fight or answers to find. As you walk, all you can do is stop and write.

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/002/662/687/761a09358bf763cf0cb6bc3a05bf8822_large.gif (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dejobaan/elegy-for-a-dead-world-a-game-about-writing-fictio)

I would surely like to see this project happen. There are a couple of (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1535515364/pathologic) others (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1850151847/ice-bound-a-novel-of-reconfiguration?ref=users), but it's just this one that I'm afraid may not meet its funding goal without more support.

I have already promoted the project on the writing forums I could find and reddits r/kickstarter and r/indiegames, but it wasn't enough to bring a noticeable raise in donations that I hoped for. The project is still trending to fail reaching its funding goal (http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/dejobaan/elegy-for-a-dead-world-a-game-about-writing-fictio/). You say you are passionate about the crowdfunding industry and helping people reach their fundraising goals. Could you possibly advise me what else could I do to reverse the trend and bring success to such a project?

Thanks for creating this forum :D
I'm new and would love to have some feedback!
I create manga, and so far my goals are to translate my Chinese versions into English so everyone can read them.
I'm not aiming for high pledges, just small amount from many people.

I have a Patreon for my general art, but i'm going to try a second to possibly experiment with indie comic subscriptions.

patreon is cool but you need to be a big shot to be able to use it in the first place

Just joined. hope to learn a lot. Am looking for more technical help.

Could you explain? do you mean only people who already have large channels are successful? What do you consider a bog shot?

I am new in this forum. I'm looking for ways to promote a project. I would like thousands of people visualize my project. But I have no money to spend on advertising..

Check out my campaign on indiegogo and please consider donating and telling everyone you know! I am trying to get funding for a game I want to create called BlackOut! Just go to indiegogo, search up BlackOut under the gaming category, and donate if you wish! Thank you for considering!

We are helping people everywhere get quality name brand condoms at discount prices sent to them in a discreet box. This allows people to get good quality protection without paying ridiculous prices.

Here is a link to the campaign ---> http://igg.me/at/thejimmyclub/x/12142591

Thank you for your consideration!

Wow... I need help I guess. Having a little trouble trusting patreon. Can't contact anybody, no numbers, no humans... posted my first post, can't find it, submitted it again... in my own 'dashboard'? 45 mins later says i have made no posts. Finally find this help forum and it says... (unlike all other help forums) that i have to jump into unrelated threads 3 times??? before I can even ask my question??
I am about to walk away from patreon... any help? i'm thelastcollaborator trying to create buddhas and cant even create a patreon account because they want to be like google and facebook. Anonymous. Un contactable. People who hide have secrets. Talking to a human is a big plus in todays age. How did all of you get past this?
I will post this three times in different threads since it seems to be required and then post my own question worded just this way.
Thanks for the help... i hope.

Hey there! New to the site. I hope to find a good resource here. I have friends who are considering Patreon and I know nothing about it. I would love to learn more!

Hi Everyone,
My name is Lauren, I'm a jazz musician using Patreon to fund an album I'm writing now and recording in December. I'm not using it as a per-month subscription pledge but as something people can donate to once (I do however plan to keep it going until the project is really completed, which will take several months). I've had it going for a month and I've gotten 5 backers, all of whom are fans/friends that I know personally. I don't have a huge following yet on social media or in real life really, but I chose Patreon because of the way its set up and I liked the concept of being able to do the subscription thing if I chose to. I've had a few people email me because they were confused if they were going to be paying per CD or per month instead of the one-time thing I set up and I've had a few that couldn't get it to take their credit card, so that's frustrating because I wanted it to be easy for people to help if they wanted to. So I'm here, looking for ways to try to improve what I've started and keep moving forward with it.

www.patreon.com/laurenleespacejazz- here's the campaign if anyone is interested in taking a look.

Hello, I present myself quickly: I am a background artist and an animator. But I work all my spare time to make illustrations, to improve, to start new personal projects. It is basically all my life. I created a patreon page, it is really new, but if anyone would like to take a look at it or give reviews, that would be awesome :) :

I just discovered this forum and this seems to be an awesome place to discover lots of great projects!

Thanks everyone

This is a brilliant platform, kudos to the founders. Once you can get a steady, dependable living wage for your art, the possibilities are endless at that point. Really awesome.

I echo other people's thanks for creating this forum where we can share Patreon's and advice.

Introducing myself: I'm an artist and writer from Australia, who has worked for many companies as a freelance artist but now want to work more on my own projects, including a fantasy comic: Luminous Ages, art resources to help other people learn art and illustrations inspired by my own imagination and public domain stories.

It would be awesome if people could check out our Patreon and support it or even just give us some advice on how to improve it:

I found this website searching for websites on artist's Patreons.

Thanks everyone.

I'm co-founder of Wikipedia, but that hasn't helped much. I'm pretty sure my Patreon project sucks. I haven't worked enough on it, and I want to redo the video, which I'm sure is completely wrong.

I'd love to get feedback. I'm not even sure that Patreon is the best crowdfunding platform for what I'm doing. All advice gratefully welcomed.
