Hey everyone! So I put my passion project, Could You Hug A Cactus? (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/philandspencer/could-you-hug-a-cactus) on to Kickstarter - my first campaign ever - and I think it's doing really well! Inspired by Shel Silverstein as a child, my illustrator and I wanted to create a book that opens up a conversation with the reader (and between the parent and child) about what it means to be imperfect, and if you can love something imperfect.

This is an exciting journey. Take a look at the project if you have a second - I'd love to get some honest feedback from people in the know. Thank you!!

thats a huge one day haul! Did you have backers lined up beforehand or is that all just small contributors?

Hey, Jeff! We certainly had some help from friends and family close to the project - they've been listening to my poetry for years - but I was definitely surprised by the number of people 2 and 3 steps removed that chose to donate and had great things to say on Facebook.

I think part of our success stems from the fact that our main reward slots in really naturally at the "kickstarter average" of $20-$25. We're making a book that will retail for that amount so the reward is a deal a $20 and we've received great feedback on that. We also tried to keep the majority of our rewards at a reasonable price point.

Thanks for taking a look!

Wow, I agree with Jeff, that is a lot of money you have already raised, respect! It is not easy to get people to contribute to something they do not directly profit from/connect with...I wish you all the best with your project!!
Maybe you would like to have a look at my project and help me spread the word :) http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Filona-pfeffer.de%2Fdownload%2FIlona_Kloop_English.wav&h=JAQFH2T7G

All the best,

All the best,

Thanks for the kind words, Ilona! I hope people do feel like they connect with the book, to be honest. We've worked hard to share art and poems with people and I've received great feedback over the stuff I've shared in the past.

I tried to check out your link but it was broken! Thanks for reaching out!

Oh, yeah, I seem to have put the wrong link. This is the right one: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/kloop-radio-give-young-radio-djs-a-future/x/10902500#/story

Thanks, Luke! We're approaching 11,000 right now, exactly 4 days after launch. It's been an incredible outpouring of support and excitement, and the feedback we're getting directly from people about both the campaign page and the book itself is amazing too! Thanks for the kind words!

Wow! That is amazing! I wish I had the same luck but no one has seems to notice our campaign.

Peter is a 5 year old kid who suffers from nephrotic syndrome... He needs to take medication daily and have his urine tested twice a day with special dip stick. Medication and treatment is so expensive... I hope someone would share or help in any way. We would be grateful for all your help.

Amazing news! Adweek's Galleycat section just named us their Publishing Project of the Week (http://www.adweek.com/galleycat/could-you-hug-a-cactus-book-featured-on-kickstarter/108442)

I didn't reach out to them at all. I did, however, test a more colorful header than my original. Maybe it worked?

Very impressive! I'm starting to realize that I'm going to spend all of my time refreshing my Kickstarter over and over again to look for progress. Seeing $0 is a bummer - hoping reaching out to friends and family will give us a good starting edge!

I know what you mean. Everyone keeps saying you have to have patience, but I just keep refreshing the page, too. The number of views goes up, but it's still at $0. :(

Your progress is amazing! Really, I hope it stays just as good, if not better :D

Very glad for you that you've been so successful in a very short time. I think it's because your story really connects with people. I'm curious, where else do you promote your project apart from in kickstarter?

Anyway, just want to throw in my own project that seeks to make iPhone cases with as little footprint as possible. We use discarded leather and repurpose them into something I think a lot of people would like.
Check it out of you want: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/180724775/ifold-eco-leather-iphone-case
