View Full Version : Sailing from North Carolina to Patagonia - Conservation Photo Book

Great forum!

I just left ten years in the military in order to pursue conservation photography - I've worked on a few projects, have been published, and won a couple national awards, and I wanted to do this full-time. I also live on a sailboat because I love the ocean and the simple life it provides.
My big project combines sailing and conservation photography by sailing by myself from North Carolina to Patagonia. Along the way I'll be photographing reefs, secluded coasts, and cultural interactions with the environment. I'll be compiling this into a book once I reach Patagonia, which will be mostly a photography book but with background stories on the photos. This project will take at least two years and rewards won't be seen until 2015, but donors (and everyone else) will be able to follow my progress via an interactive map on my website. My Kickstarter campaign is to raise funds for an underwater camera housing & strobes, communications costs, book publishing fees, and a liferaft.
It's an ambitious project, but hopefully I'll be able to open the world up to more people, show them what we're destroying, and help them live healthier lives! My campaign page is here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/587739536/sailing-saoirse-liberty
