View Full Version : Be Warned of Indiegogo

Sometime during yesterday, Indiegogo closed my campaign. After trying dozens of times to get ahold of them, I still haven't been able to. There was no warning (or reason); other people have had similar problems with this dictatorship of content. This is the Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org/greater-san-francisco/business-reviews/internet-services/indiegogo-in-san-francisco-ca-372843)'s official website and even they haven't been able to contact Indiegogo after multiple claims, so their rating is an F.

Be warned people... They can close your campaign for any reason, fail to refund the money to contributors & never respond to you.

Wow, that;s terrible. Please let us know the reason if you find out. I have moved this to the general folder.

Certainly will. Trying to get back the funds to the contributors right now...
Thanks for moving it to the proper folder.

Were any money collected on their site? (and still staying with them)

kingh

Yes, about $1,600. Apparently they're known for keeping money even after deleting an account.
I got in contact with their social-media person today, but that's it. That person didn't have anything to say regarding what's going on.

That's not good. Have you tried phoning them as well as emailing them?

They should have at the very least contacted you telling you of their intentions to remove your campaign with the reason(s) why.

As for any money received that belongs to the donors, not them.

I've called about 20 times and each one of their directory listings, too.
Absolutely agree with you that they should have contacted me, and if they won't bring the campaign back, to refund the money to the doners.

Do you have any record of individual contributors? If so some pressure might be exerted on Indiegogo if they knew what had happened to their money.

There were only four investors, and I'm in contact with them.

It will be good to see if investors will be refunded. If not, Indiegogo is just a scam

If people want to check and verify, try to call Indiegogo's customer "happiness" @ (866-641-4646)... You'll never get a response.
There are varying posts online that funds were refunded with a significant delay, or not at all.

I also appreciate everyone contacting Indiegogo's online feedback form (http://www.indiegogo.com/about/contact?category=FBCT_BUGB) and urging them to stop discriminating & suppressing the magnetic battery campaign.

Thank you!
Harrison

Let's see if they respond to my query. :)

Good news! I finally contacted an Indiegogo's representative who relayed the information forward. There's a good chance the campaign will be back in full swing before the end of tomorrow.

The reasoning they gave me was, "Risk Management" and required verification. Unfortunately, they didn't send me that message. If you ever need to contact Indiegogo via phone, I suggest using the directory code #7005; the woman who answered was quite helpful!

Thank you to everyone who sent feedback & helped save this campaign!

Good news!...Hopefully the end of tomorrow will confirm it.

Phew, that's good. It would be sad to see a major site misbehaving in such way

I'm pretty new to crowdfunding, but plan on becoming active in
this space. I like the concept, and believe the new equity funding
will go a long way in validating this model.

I've had several companies, and the one thing I will not deal with are
businesses that don't provide responsive customer phone service.
When I need an answer I need it NOW! The email merry-go-round
is a complete waste of time.

I'm going with Kickstarter, for several reasons:

a) With Indiegogo - being able to keep contributor's donations even if
the funding goal is not met means the project may not get done, and
that isn't fair.
b) On KS, donor's*are probably going to be more interested in participating
knowing the project must be fully funded.
c) Even tho KS charges a bit more, IGG uses PayPal, which I don't trust
at all. I've been screwed over by them twice.
d) Kickstarter has more traffic - Quantcast shows them with 20 x+ more than IGG.

Even tho they seem to be simply hosting platforms, KS lends more credibility
to its offerings by being a recognizable and trusted brand with its various
features - rewards, comments, updates, referrals, etc.

BTW - you can get 50% off Indiegogo's fee's by joining (free) StartUp America

Very interesting Skystar.
Startup America does require a SSN though, if you don't have an EIN.
I believe I started the process before, too!

I'll keep people updated when the campaign comes back online.

Well done, it looks like your persistence will pay off. Just a pity it got to this stage through what looks like poor communication from their side.

Well, I did at least get a reply from them.

Either you had better luck, BBB complaint is doing something or they didn't want to talk to me.

Hi Kingh,
I am wondering why you deleted my reply to you in response to your post in which you said 'There's a good chance the campaign will be back in full swing before the end of tomorrow'. What was inappropriate about my response which was in support of you stating.'Good news. Hopefully it will be confirmed by the end of tomorrow'. Please explain if there is a misunderstanding from either of us. Cheers!

No misunderstanding, just a mistake. Still learning the process, but I figured it out.
Not sure how I got to your post under the threads I flagged as spam though... Hmph.

Well, sorry about that! Haha.
Have a good one.

Is anyone else having trouble with the indiegogo user interface?
Everything looks out of place to me. Plus, specific features aren't working.

Just looked and the video presentation isn't working. Probably just a temporary hitch.

For me, the entire menu is separated and the certain aspects of the login aren't working.
Glad it's not just me.
Thanks

May I ask why this post was renewed on 9.1?

I suppose if you have complaints regarding Indiegogo, this isn't a bad thread to post them in.
