Our Patreon is for artworks and a comic book so our experience is probably a bit different but part of it might be time frame. As I understand it most people on Patreon expect bite size amounts frequently unlike people on Kickstarter who expect large meals with long gaps.
I expect it takes a while to complete a full book and this might deter some people when they don't know how long they will have to wait.
Maybe you could offer smaller amounts more regularly? Such as chapters?

I am new to Patreon myself as an author, and just installed that WordPress plugin -- it's nice as it will put a Patreon button at the end of each post with a little blurb similar to: "Like it, donate..." Was easy to set up too
