The industry is growing on a global scale much faster than even some of the brightest economic analysts predicted. Crowdfunding platforms are multiplying around the world and the sums that they’re raising are growing exponentially.Crowdfunding is having a massive economic impact on every industry under the sun such as for example music, film, real estate, debt & lending, education, sports & athletics, fashion, agriculture, clean energy, science, technology, health & medical and charities just to name a few.

Between 2009 to 2012, crowdfunding expanded as a compound annual growth of 63%. at the end of 2015 research suggest that $93 Billion in investment funds could be globally available.

As the CrowdCrux article mentioned there are some difficulties in measuring the size of crowdfunding. Massolution recently put out a study and that found that, “Global crowdfunding experienced accelerated growth in 2014, expanding by 167 percent to reach $16.2 billion raised, up from $6.1 billion in 2013. In 2015, the industry is set to more than double once again, on its way to raising $34.4 billion.” One thing is for sure, crowdfunding is a large and growing market. I work for a software company that provides a SaaS that helps clients build and manage their own crowdfunding platform. I think there has been a movement toward more focused and niche platforms which has helped to expand the number of crowdfunding websites that exist.

Here in The Netherlands (Europe) it's not really that normal to own a credit card like in the USA and that's why a lot of people can't or don't take the effort to donate. Hopefully this will change because it's an awesome way of stimulating innovative ideas.

That is very interesting and I hope to add a new sector to the list next year with the launch of adultXfunding.com the first full crowdfunding platform for the adult entertainment industry.
