What is the Size of the Crowdfunding Industry?

Ever since the first crowdfunding platforms launched in the early-to-mid 2000s, the crowdfunding industry has seen some enormous growth. If you factor in all of the different types of crowdfunding, the industries that crowdfunding has affected, and the fact that new platforms are launching around the world each year, you can’t help but notice how ubiquitous crowdfunding has become. Still you might be wondering, “How big is crowdfunding really?”

Depends what type of crowdfunding you are talking about, and which country /region.

Nesta (the innovation charity) estimated the size of the UK alternative finance market at £1.74 billion last year.

As you can see, reward and donation crowdfunding only makes up a small part of that!

The report those numbers cime from is really interesting http://www.nesta.org.uk/publications...ry-report-2014

That's a low amount for donations you would think charities would be a little hire and if they were for good causes

It's a bit like peer-to-peer lending - businesses with invoices can upload them to an invoice trading platform, and people bid to fund it. The business gets their money right away, and the people funding it make interest.

There's some more info here https://www.fundsurfer.com/funding-o...nvoice-trading

Examples of invoice trading platforms include Platform Black and Market Invoice
