    4 Essential Steps for a Successful Kickstarter Campaign

    1. Implement early outreach.
    It is critical to begin reaching out to partners, affiliates, friends and family at least a month in advance. Give yourself plenty of time to organize whom you are going to contact and how, so when it comes time to launch, you aren’t scrambling to find people to tell.

    2. Form key partnerships.
    If others in your industry have run a campaign, you may be able to do a “backers swap.” This means that they will post about your campaign in an update, and you’ll do the same for them.

    Partnerships with influencers in your industry can also be a huge help.

    3. Create cool content.
    You need to have calls-to-action that get people to support you throughout your video and actual campaign page.

    4. Establish teamwork.
    The balance in roles between team members is what enables companies to have success when crowdfunding.

    It depends on what you would value as success and what you want to get out of your Kickstarter campaign.

    For some, the main reason for running a Kickstarter / Indiegogo campaign is to raise the funds to achieve a goal.

    For others, the PR and exposure resulted from the campaign might be more important than the funding itself.

    You might also run a campaign for:
    • attracting external investment — proof of market;
    • attract supporters or creating awareness;
    • getting feedback from a wider audience / crowdsourcing;
    • competitive reasons — attracting the attention of a specific company or competitor, being the first to do something (and getting recognition for it), keeping a patent in the public domain etc.;

    Some have found success even though their campaign did not manage to raise the full funding.

    However, if the money is not the main reasons for running a campaign, you should just ask for a smaller amount — though you have to consider that if you do that, it might be more difficult to create a compelling video / story.

    This is overall really bad advice. It's good advice if you want to raise less than $5k, but if you are going for a serious campaign you will need to use traditional marketing methods (ie. Ads, PR, and Influencer Marketing).
