CHEETAHMEN II : THE LOST LEVELS
This project will only be funded if at least $65,000 is pledged by Thursday Sep 6, 10:00pm EDT

IN A WORLD OF DIGITAL DOWNLOADS, GREG PABICH IS FACING ALMOST UNBEATABLE ODDS. HE IS TRYING TO PROMOTE RETRO GAMING BY PUBLISHING ON AN NES CARTRIDGE. IF THAT SOUNDS HARD, CONSIDER THAT HIS PUBLISHING EMPIRE IS BASED UPON THE MOST NOTORIOUS GAME FRANCHISE IN ALL OF GAMING HISTORY--- "ACTION 52" FEATURING THE CHEETAHMEN.

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, IN THE EARLY 1990's, VINCE PERRI OF ACTIVE ENTERPRISES RAISED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PRODUCE A "MULTICART" CONTAINING 52 GAMES THAT WOULD BYPASS NINTENDO's LICENSING HURDLES AND ALLOW HIM TO SELL A SINGLE CART WITH 52 GAMES FOR THE PRICE OF $199 OR AS THEY LIKED TO ADVERTISE, LESS THAN $4 PER GAME.CONSIDERING THAT GAMES AT THAT TIME COULD RUN $40-$60 APIECE, IT WAS TO BE A PATH TO FAME AND FORTUNE. UNFORTUNATELY, PERRI LOCKED THREE COLLEGE KIDS IN A ROOM, WHO HAD NO PRIOR GAME PROGRAMMING EXPERIENCE, RESULTING IN THE TRAINWRECK KNOWN AS ACTION 52.
    ACTION 52
OUT OF 52 GAMES, OF WHICH 51 WERE DISASTERS, THERE WAS A GLIMMER OF HOPE: #52- "THE CHEETAHMEN". THE MUSIC WAS GOOD, IN FACT, IT WAS VERY GOOD AND THE GAME?-- WELL LET'S SAY THAT COMPARED TO THE FIRST 51, IT WAS EXCELLENT! ALL THIS WAS AS A RESULT OF A LAST MINUTE CHANGE BY WHICH PERRI REMOVED THE ORIGINAL CHEETAHMEN GAME FROM THE PROTOTYPE AND HAD A NEW GAME PROGRAMMED THAT FEATURED MANY NEW AND "EXCITING" CHARACTERS. HE COMMISSIONED A COMIC BOOK TO TELL THE STORY AND WITH VISIONS OF SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS AND ACTION FIGURES PUTTING MONEY IN HIS BANK ACCOUNT, HE WENT TO MARKET.
EVEN THOUGH THE CHEETAHMEN GAME WASN'T HALF BAD, THE RESULTING BAD PRESS ABOUT THE FIRST 51, SOME OF WHICH WOULDN'T EVEN PLAY, KILLED ANY INTEREST IN PAYING $199 FOR THE GAMECART.
PERRI ULTIMATELY SOLD A FEW THOUSAND CARTS AND AS MONEY RAN OUT, HE COMMISSIONED A CHEETAHMEN II GAME, ORDERING 1,500 UNITS FROM THE MANUFACTURER. BEFORE HE COULD EVEN TAKE POSSESSION, ACTIVE FOLDED, PERRI WENT INTO HIDING (SOME OF THE INVESTORS WEREN'T TOO KEEN ON WHERE THE MONEY WENT) AND THE CHEETAHMEN II GAMES SAT ON A PALLET IN A WAREHOUSE FOR SEVERAL YEARS BEFORE THEY WERE SOLD TO A GAME BROKER FOR $1,500 (A DOLLAR EACH) IN 1996.
MEANWHILE, OVER THE YEARS ACTION 52 BECOMES AN EXPENSIVE COLLECTOR GAMECART ON EBAY, SELLING FOR HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AND A CHEETAHMEN II? TRY TO TOUCH ONE TODAY FOR LESS THAN $1,500-- RECENT ASK PRICES RANGE FROM $3,500- TO AS MUCH AS $39,000 FOR A PRISTINE COPY.
IN 2010, GREG PABICH, A GAME ENTREPRENEUR DISCOVERS HE OWNS THE SOLE PROTOTYPE ACTION 52 CART CONTAINING THE "LOST" VERSION OF CHEETAHMEN I AND SPENDS A GREAT DEAL OF TIME/EFFORT /MONEY TO TRACK DOWN THE ORIGINAL PROGRAMMER, MARIO GONZALEZ, SECURE TRADEMARKS AND COPYRIGHTS AND SET UP THE "CULT OF CHEETAHMEN" TEAM TO ULTIMATELY BRING THE UNRELEASED GAME TO MARKET, HAVING DISCOVERED THAT ACTION 52 AND CHEETAHMEN HAVE BECOME ICONS IN THE GAMING COMMUNITY WITH A FOLLOWING IN THE MILLIONS. IF THERE EVER WAS ANYTHING THAT UNITED THE GAMING COMMUNITY, IT WAS THE LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP ASSOCIATED WITH THIS GAME. IF YOU WANTED TO SEE A FIGHT BREAK OUT, WALK INTO A ROOM AND SAY "I LOVE (OR I HATE) CHEETAHMEN" -GUARANTEED TO START A BRAWL
FURTHER, CHEETAHMEN THEN WENT ON TO BECOME AS FAMOUS AS HELLO KITTY IN JAPAN( WHERE IT IS AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS " HELL NO, KITTY" AS TENS OF THOUSANDS OF JAPANESE FANS HAVE TAKEN THE "CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD" MUSIC AND REMIXED IT, ADDING ELABORATE VIDEOS AND POSTING THEM ON JAPAN's VERSION OF YOUTUBE.
    CHEETAHMEN: THE CREATION
AFTER INVESTING UNTOLD MILLIONS IN CHEETAHMEN: THE CREATION, HE RELEASED IT TO CRITICAL ACCLAIM IN 2011(THE ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD CERTAINLY WAS CRITICAL), PABICH THEN SET HIS SIGHTS ON ANOTHER CHALLENGE. PERRI's HURRIED UP PRODUCTION OF CHEETAHMEN II DIDN'T ACTUALLY WORK; A GLITCH WOULD NOT ALLOW THE GAME TO PLAY THROUGH TO ALL LEVELS AND THE HIGH COST/FEW REMAINING COPIES DIDN'T ALLOW MANY GAMERS TO EVEN FIND THAT OUT SINCE MOST COPIES NEVER WERE EVEN PLAYED DUE TO ITS SCARCITY/RARITY.
PABICH, WHO CLAIMS TO HAVE FEW COMPUTER SKILLS AND LESS PROGRAMMING SAVY, PUT THE TEAM ON A PROJECT TO PRODUCE A GAME THAT PLAYED ALL THE LEVELS, "THE LOST LEVELS".... AND AS HE BRAVELY SAID, " MAYBE WE CAN CHARGE LESS THAN $39,000....."
HAVING ACHIEVED THAT GOAL, HE NOW IS SEEKING ENOUGH MONEY TO PRODUCE THE GAME ON A BROAD SCALE, AT A PRICE THAT PUTS IT WITHIN THE REACH OF GAMERS, COLLECTORS AND ALL THOSE THAT WANT TO KEEP RETRO GAMING ALIVE AND GROWING.
    CHEETAHMEN II: THE LOST LEVELS
SOME THINK THIS IS THE WORST GAME EVER PRODUCED; SOME THINK IT IS PART OF A GRAND PLAN/VISION THAT INVOLVES WORLD DOMINATION. SOME THINK IT SHOULD BE BANNED WORLDWIDE INSTEAD OF IN JUST 77 COUNTRIES. MANY WOULD ATTEST TO HOW IT CHANGED THEIR LIFE.
ALL I KNOW FOR SURE IS THAT WITHOUT YOUR HELP, THIS VERY IMPORTANT WORK OF GAMING ART AND HISTORY WILL NOT GET INTO THE HANDS OF THOSE WHO TRULY NEED IT.
SO DIG DEEP AND KEEP THE FIGHTS AND BRAWLS GOING.
GET SOME GREAT REWARDS THAT WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE TO CONTRIBUTORS/BELIEVERS. LOOK YOUR NEIGHBOR IN THE EYE AND BE PROUD TO SAY "I'M TO BLAME". HE WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO...
