$20,944 In Funding - Kickstarter - Jamboo Headphones (Rejected 2x from Kickstarter!)

Austin Glenn, a young, motivated entrepreneur wanted to start something bigger than himself after he graduated from college. In this Herdsurf interview Austin talks about his journey on Kickstarter and how this platform has become a part of him. The idea for Jamboo came to Austin after getting tired of seeing the same style of earbuds on the market. Austin wanted something that stood out, and made an impact to his style. The headphones are made out of bamboo and woven with colorful thread. They won’t tangle and will leave you with the most fashionable headphones on the market. During their 32 day Kickstarter campaign, the team was able to raise just under $21,000 with the help of 403 backers. Austin shares the story how he got rejected from Kickstarter not once, but twice, before his campaign finally went live. He shares valuable insight about getting your personal network to help out and how the international community can make a huge difference to your campaign. We had a thoroughly enjoyed Austin's story and we hope you "Stand Out Jam Out" with us on this one! Link to campaign.

    Key Points
    • Make sure to read the Kickstarter guidelines over and over again. They are strict and will reject you without reason.
    • Offer some cool rewards that only Kickstarter backers can get.
    • The limited supply “pledge levels” will help your campaign get some movement early on. Try and do a few.
    • Find a co-founder with a similar large network. In the case of Jamboo, they had a big network in San Diego from 1 of the co-founders and the other a large network in the Midwest which gave them a good reach.
    • International shipping is expensive; make sure to weigh and calculate how much it will cost to get your product overseas. Chances are you will have a few international backers but don’t let those shipping costs wipe away your profits.
    • Kickstarter is a way to validate your idea, don’t hesitate to just go for it. What’s the worst that can happen? In most cases you will be saving money if your campaign fails.

The Jamboo Headphones are fully funded and have already shipped. Pick up your own pair at their website - JAMBOO Headphones

For anyone contemplating creating a Crowdfunding campaign this could be 40 minutes very well spent. I just wish the video had better sound.
